Based on the book by Johanna Spyri, the film follows the adventures of Heidi, a young orphan girl who lives in the Swiss mountains. Her gift for happiness helps her when she is forced to leave her grandfather and friend, Peter, for a new life in the city. During her time there she makes friends with wheel-chair bound Clara who, with Heidi's help, gains the courage to learn to walk again.
